Google Expands Dark Web Reports to All Users

At Google’s insistence, all account holders will soon have access to its Dark Web reports feature starting late July 2024 – in contrast to its current model where only Google One subscribers had access. 9to5Google reported on an announcement made through a pop-up banner within Google One app informing subscribers that this feature “will no longer be available after July.”

Integration of Dark Web reports into “Results about you” section seeks to provide users with a comprehensive solution to monitor and protect their online presence. According to Google, Dark Web report will become accessible for use with consumer Google accounts as part of an overall solution designed to help protect online identity. Google stated, “Dark Web report can now be integrated seamlessly with Results about you as a comprehensive strategy to help users monitor and protect online identity.”

Dark Web reports, currently available in 46 countries, allow individuals to set up profiles that monitor the dark web for data breaches or leaks that compromise personal privacy. By scanning sensitive information like names, addresses, phone numbers and emails addresses found there, this feature proactively notifies individuals if their personal details appear online allowing for swift action to protect it in time.

“Results about you”, which allows users to discover and request the removal of search results containing personal information about them, will now work hand in hand with Dark Web reports for increased online privacy and protection, helping individuals manage risks associated with personal data exposure more efficiently and safely.

Google announced, starting “late July 2024, dark web report will no longer require Google One membership – all users signed into their Google accounts can start taking advantage of this feature as soon as it becomes available alongside Results about you”. Although a specific rollout date remains unspecified beyond “late July”, this initiative demonstrates Google’s dedication to expanding privacy protection tools across a wider user base.

Google has made significant strides toward expanding access to essential privacy protection features by making Dark Web reports available to all Google Account holders – not only improving user security but also meeting growing consumer demand for comprehensive online privacy solutions. This move marks an impressive feat by Google!
